Overnight Thunderstorm
Distant thunder grumbled continuously in the background as the rain threw itself down to the earth in sharp staccato.  Lightning sliced through the dark in brief but frequent flashes of coruscation. The crashes following broke through the mutterings with sharp bursts of sound, smashing and pounding against the night.
Through it all, rain fell.
Large droplets formed into rivulets falling from roofs in arcing sheets of water. It fell again into pools and puddles, flowing down and away, briefly sustaining what plants could drink it before it ran on its way ever downward to the sea.
The world awoke wet.  The dripping and splashing, coursing and crashing water covered everything. It will slowly dry until the land is again parched and wanting nothing more than a taste of the fulfillment provided this night.  However, for now, the earth is alive and sustained because of the rain.
